I attended the Critical Transitions in Socio-ecological Systems Workshop at Princeton University in February 2025, where I gave a flash talk titled “Increasing the Benefits of Formal Interactions at Scientific Conferences”.

Abstract: This research aims to optimize group assignments to increase the benefits of formal interaction at scientific conferences and encourage diverse, interdisciplinary team formation. We developed a genetic algorithm that assigns participants to multiple discussion groups while maximizing each group’s diversity. Our results indicate that the algorithm outperformed random assignments in creating diverse groups and minimizing repeated meetings among pairs.
